Master Closet in Heritage Maple

Staying organized can be a challenge, but with the right tools and systems, the job can be made a bit easier. This master closet design features short-hang and long-hang clothing rods to maximize space for hanging clothes. It also features slanted shoe shelves and additional adjustable shelves for shoes and folded garments.

This space was designed in 'Heritage Maple' by Rachel Ferguson for CKF Des Moines.

Raised Bar on Existing Island

Sometimes customers come to us with awesome ideas, like adding a raised Cambria bar top to an existing granite kitchen island. With a little help from our CORE department, we're able to turn almost all ideas into reality with a little strategy and planning.

STEP ONE:  The first step is to get the concept into software that will create a 3D image of the projected plan. The weight of the added countertop will determine the amount and type of supports that will be needed. We worked with Walls to Floors to create this custom design.

STEP TWO: We created the structure to support the raised bar out of custom steel supports. Most support structures are made of custom steel legs and arms that are welded together. The support system was then carefully drilled into the existing granite countertop.

STEP THREE: We added attractive elements to hide the steel support structure. To people who visit this home, the raised bar will look as though it's being supported by wooden legs that match the existing cabinetry.

STEP FOUR: Marvel at the beauty of this new raised bar top, designed in Cambria's Ramsey design with a chiseled edge profile.

Platinum Garage Design

We are stoked to debut our first official garage job, now that the cat is out of the bag

This project was designed by Rachel Ferguson for CKF Des Moines. The cabinets were done in ORG Platinum with aluminum profile handles. The flooring is an epoxy coating by DCD Concrete Coatings. This space allows the home owner to keep their garage clutter-free by keeping all tools and equipment tucked behind closed doors.

Before & After: Designer Edition

Amber Griego is a retail designer for CKF Omaha. She and her husband, Josh, began looking for their first home in March of 2015. After months of searching to find the perfect move-in ready home, they decided to go the fixer-upper route (Amber’s dad had experience in remodeling and would be able to help them along the way). They ended up finding a home with a lot of potential, and with Amber’s vision in tact, they gutted the kitchen, three bathrooms, and the entire basement. The Omaha home was built in 1964, so Amber wanted to keep some of the character that was originally built into the home. They refinished the beautiful red oak floors and had some of the windows replaced. They were intent on keeping the intricate, original plaster ceilings, and the original front door, which had a diamond window and a diamond door handle plate. They had to be careful during the demo process, as to not ruin any of these unique features. The entire renovation took about 4 months, but they are so happy with the results and were able to move in on Oct. 10.

Amber’s MUST-HAVE products for the kitchen:

1. Kohler® Enamled Cast Iron Kitchen Sink
2. White subway tile, with grey grout. (She pinned that look a million times.)
3. Cambria® quartz countertops
4. White cabinets

More about Amber:

Amber starts all of her designs with the functionality factor, and then selects stylish finishes. She loves vintage things that add character to a space. She thinks it’s important to select clean, classic pieces as a base, and then roll in some vintage decor to style the space. She loves bouncing ideas off other designers and family members. One of her favorite sources of inspiration comes from looking at photos of old kitchens and selecting elements that are still in style today.

“Nothing is more beautiful than a design that stands the test of time.” -Amber Griego, CKF Omaha

Makeover Monday: Yellow Kitchen

It’s amazing what new cabinets and countertops can do for your kitchen. This homeowner was yearning for an update, as the layout, cabinet door style, and cabinet color were things from their past. Neighbors were updating their homes, and it was time for this kitchen to become one with the neighborhood. Their laminate countertops were falling apart, and they felt the odd layout wasn’t allowing for full functionality of the space. With the addition of new Marquis classic cabinetry (door style in prairie; paint color in birch white), they finally got the storage space they’d been hoping for. The yellowing laminate was replaced with gorgeous granite countertops in Black Pearl, which really took this kitchen from drab to fab. Keep scrolling for photos of this project before and after it was remodeled.
