As with most big events in the past year, the 2021 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show went virtual earlier this month giving industry leaders a digital look at the new innovations and trends in kitchen and bath design. While this year’s event was much different that previous years, it was still full of exciting new design trends and technology to streamline your home. Here are the biggest trends we noticed this year at KBIS 2021:
The ‘Look’ of Marble
The biggest trend in countertops this year is getting the look of marble without the hassle of maintenance or staining. Quartz countertops offer the perfect solution by providing superior durability to natural stone and are widely available in a variety of designs. The most popular designs typically consist of a white background with gray veining throughout, mimicking the look of natural marble.
Full Height Backsplashes
Another popular trend in kitchens are full height backsplashes which create a seamless look. Not only do they create an impactful design, but they minimize grout lines that are common with traditional tile backsplashes, making them much easier to clean.
Taking it one step further, quartz is also being used as wall cladding for statement making features like shower walls, fireplaces and commercial spaces as shown in the Lexus example above.
With the current focus on cleanliness and frequent handwashing, touchless faucets have increased in popularity. Once a novelty these faucets have become a kitchen staple, making it easier to wash your hands or fresh produce without having to touch the handle. In addition, this newly released two-toned faucet from Kohler is a fun way to mix metals and add a stylish touch to your kitchen.
Perfect for additional storage, refrigerator drawers are becoming a popular solution in kitchens and beyond. Their small size make them perfect for pantries, coffee stations or bars and provide access to everything from coffee creamer, wine or snacks.
Another notable trend from KBIS this year is appliance customization that goes beyond a custom color. Bluestar Appliances announced the ability to customize their appliances with any image, including images inspired by art, wallpaper, tile, fabric or drawings. In addition, they are also able to custom match any color making the options for customization truly endless. Samsung also launched a customizable refrigerator that comes in a variety of colors and can be configured to meet your needs.
Discovering the latest technology is always one the highlights of KBIS and this year was no exception. Kohler unveiled an innovative new showerhead with an bluetooth speaker that transforms your shower into an immersive experience. In addition, it can be removed and used throughout the home or on the go.
Overall, many of the trends we noticed focused around personalization, functionality and creating a home best suited for you and your family’s needs. From custom appliances to versatile quartz countertops, our homes are being utilized more than ever before, which has led to customers demanding higher performance and function in every aspect of their home.
