WHAT IS GRANITE?
Granite is a natural stone that is formed from various minerals, like quartz and feldspar, that create unique patterns on the stone.
SEALER
Due to granite’s natural porosity, it needs to be sealed in order to avoid stains. A sealer is applied to your granite countertop prior to installation; however, if your countertop is a high-traffic area, you may want to seal it more often. This can be done by a CKF professional.
GENERAL CLEANING
Routine and timely cleaning is recommended to decrease the chance of your granite countertops staining.
- Wipe spills immediately.
- Use a mild solution of dish soap and warm water.
- Always use a clean, soft cloth.
- Do not use harsh and abrasive scouring pads or cleaning agents. Using these items may permanently alter the finish.
Products we recommend include:
- A mild solution of dish soap and warm water
- White vinegar diluted in water (20:1)
- Simple Green® diluted in water (1:1)
- 409® Natural Stone + Steel Cleaner
- Lysol® wipes
SCRATCHES AND CHIPPING
Granite is scratch and chip resistant but is not scratch and chip proof. Always use a cutting board and trivets on rough surfaced items.
- For scratch and chip repair, contact your local CKF showroom.
HEAT AND UV EXPOSURE
- Granite can be installed outdoors due to its naturally occurring colors, which will not fade due to direct sunlight.
- Granite is heat resistant. Always use a trivet under hot items and countertop appliances. Scorching and cracking may occur if granite is exposed to high heat.
